DIY Recipes, Striving with the Biz

Preparing with Thieves

It’s October, and it’s that time when you hear a chorus of coughs around you.  Kleenex’s are an essential to have on hand, and friends are occasionally staying home to “rest.”

I want to share with you what we do in our home to help our immune systems get a boost.

As you guessed it ( I kinda gave it away in the title), we will be using a lot of Thieves!  I do have a few other oils that I keep on hand as well, so it won’t be an only-Thieves kinda party going on here!

First, let me give you a list of things I stock up with, then I will tell you how I make them!

  1. Immune Boost Stick
  2. Baby Immune Boost Cream
  3. Baby Sniffle Stick
  4. Chest Rub
  5. DIY Immune Supplement
  6. Diffuser Blends

Many of these things are super easy, and don’t require anything more than a few carrier oils and Young Living Essential oils that you probably already have! (If you have the Premium Starter Kit anyway!)

Immune Boost Stick

This is a simple combination of Thieves and another single oil that kicks butt in the immunity department.  I choose Oregano, but you can use Tea Tree, Lavender, Lemon, even Orange to give it a refreshing zip!

You will need:

  • 10ml Roller Bottle
  • Carrier Oil (I use Grapeseed Oil…Fareway has a good brand that I’m impressed with!)
  • Essential Oils: Thieves and any one of the other choices I listed above

I don’t normally use funnels because I have cute little squeezable measuring chutes that work pretty great!  If you don’t have those, you can get funnels for the purpose of making your own creations like this!  I got mine on Amazon right here.  They are so cute!!

You want to add your oils first, then the carrier oil.  Since I use Thieves and Oregano, I do 4-5 drops of Thieves, and about 4-5 of Oregano.  They are both pretty strong, so you don’t have to go crazy with these!  However, if you are using any of the other oils, I wouldn’t hesitate to add a little more of them.  (7-8 drops instead)

I fill up the roller bottle up to the threads.  That gives me a little room to shake and mix the oils together.  Shake before each time you use.  I rub this on my feet at night, and on the back of my neck.  I also rub this on my throat if it’s a little irritated.  Seems to work great for me!

Baby Immune Boost Cream

Not much of a recipe here, but I want to urge you guys that whenever you deal with children, you don’t need a lot of oil at all!  Their sensitive skin can’t handle the amounts we do.  Some oils are much more delicate for their bodies, but when dealing with Thieves…I am extremely cautious.  If it’s advised for adults to dilute before using, I’m going to for sure dilute for Kaylee!

You will need:

  • Glass container (I use 4oz Mason Jars that you can get at Wal-Mart)
  • Organic Coconut Oil (I found some good stuff at Fareway as well, but I order this in bulk from Amazon)
  • Young Living Thieves

First, I fill up the jar up with Coconut oil, but give yourself room to stir!  If you find it easier to soften the coconut oil you can do so in the microwave, or heat up a pot of water on the stove then place your coconut-filled mason jar in that til the oil is melted.

I was trying to just put one drop Thieves in, but accidentally got 2.  It’s not hurting Kaylee, but I wouldn’t do much more than that for my own comfort!  I apply this just like I do my Immune Stick; I put it on her feet and run it on her back and throat if needed!

Baby Sniffle Stick

Kaylee has a cute little arrangement of roller bottles especially for her, and this is added to her collection.  I find it helpful to use with the Thieves cream.  Again, there’s not much to it since it’s just for Kaylee.

You will need:

  • 10ml Roller Bottle
  • Sweet Almond Oil/Jojoba Oil/Grapeseed Oil
  • Young Living Lemon EO (could also use YL Cedarwood, YL Tea Tree, YL Frankincense)

I put 1-3 drops of EO in the roller bottle (I used the Lemon Oil).  Fill bottle to the threads with carrier oil.  Shake before use.  I apply this to Kaylee’s chest and back.  I also do this on her toes.

Chest Rub

Another simple recipe that doesn’t require much at all from you!

You will need:

  • Glass container
  • Coconut Oil
  • Young Living Peppermint/Eucalyptus Globulus/RC blend EOs

Fill container with Coconut oil (heat and melt if easier to mix in Essential Oils).  I used the Eucalyptus Globulus oil in ours.  You can use Peppermint since I’ve heard great things about that!  RC is also a great blend to use in this if you have that!

I’d put 10-15 drops in.  Go on the lighter end with Peppermint.  That stuff is strong and doesn’t need much at all!!  As the title says, you rub this on your chest.  But you can always get perks for rubbing this on your feet as well!

DIY Immune Supplement

You will need:

  • Vegetable Capsules (I get mine from Young Living, but you can also get them on Amazon as well)
  • Food Grade Carrier Oil (again, I use Grapeseed)
  • Young Living Thieves Vitality EO, and a choice/combination of YL Frankincense Vitality, and/or YL Oregano Vitality

This is really quick to whip up each morning for Harold and myself (not recommended while breastfeeding…consult medical advice).  If I make only a Thieves capsule, I place 3 drops of Thieves and fill the rest with carrier oil.  If I combine this with others, then I do 1-2 drops Thieves Vitality and 1 drop Oregano Vitality or 2 drops Frankincense Vitality.  I used to be REALLY good with my hands and could pour the carrier oil from the bottle into the capsule without spilling…but it’s so much easier to use those squeezable dispensers for this one.  (they come with some roller bottles if you buy them off Amazon, but you can get them by themselves here)

I’ve read that you can make a bunch of these at a time and freeze them, but I normally just make what I need for the day and do that every day.

Diffuser Blends

If you want, you can diffuse Thieves by itself at the strength you prefer for your home.  However, I like to jazz it up once in a while.  Here’s a few combinations I like:

  • YL Thieves and YL Orange
  • YL Cinnamon Bark, YL Nutmeg, and YL Orange
  • YL Peppermint and YL Lemon
  • YL Citrus Fresh, YL Clove, YL Nutmeg

I am also guilty of Pinterest to find what other diffuser combinations people have come up!

A lot of what I find is from the book Gentle Babies.  It’s fantastic!  A great resource for anyone wanting to know how to use oils on little ones.

I hope you all find these recipes beneficial!  Here’s to striving and thriving through fall and all the junk that comes with it!
