Back at it this week with a fitting topic on how you can use your essential oils to the fullest! Spring Cleaning! We fill our homes so much with all those chemical cleaners. When we think we’re cleaning the air and appliances around us, we are actually poisoning ourselves more! Here’s how you can get yourself in a good clean habit by using things that your body with thank you for later!
I stole this from a magazine from Young Living. I was borrowing this from a friend and came across this article that inspired me to share basically the whole thing with you for my post! Here’s the proof that I’m not the one to really take credit for this advice. 😉
Let’s get to it!
#1- Countertops
Find a space for the things that clutter your countertops, and break out the Thieves Wipes, a quick, easy and fragrant way to clean surfaces! That part is easy!
#2- Doorknobs and Cabinet Handles
While you’re in the kitchen and bathroom, give some attention to doorknobs and cabinet handles. We touch them every day, multiple times. Get that Thieves Spray out! It’s portable and gets the job done easily and quickly.
#3- Stovetop
A common place for greasy buildup. While harsh chemicals promise to get the job done, you don’t have to expose yourself and your family to those fumes. Take 1 capful of Thieves Household Cleaner and mix with 4 cups of water. Need something stronger? Change the ratio to 1 capful per 1 cup of water.
#4- Windows
Make sure your windows give you a sparkling view! Try 1 capful of Thieves Household Cleaner, 5 drops of Citrus Fresh Essential Oil and one teaspoon of White Vinegar, mixed with 3 cups of water.
#5- Bathroom Mirrors
The same mixture that cleans your windows will make your bathroom mirrors sparkle, too!
#6- Dishes Stored for Special Occasions
It may have been years since you last broke out Grandma’s china for a family dinner. In the meantime, it’s collecting dust in your cabinet. Take care of those family heirlooms by washing them in Thieves Dish Soap. This plant-based formula will leave your dishes sparkling and lemon fresh!
#7- Linens
Remember when we dried all of our bedding on a clothesline in the backyard? You don’t have to go that retro for your sheets and comforters to be fresh and clean this spring. Try using Thieves Laundry Soap.
#8- Floors
Floors take a beating year-round and can be difficult to keep clean. Mix 2 cups of vinegar, 1 cup of water, and 15 drops of your favorite essential oil like Lemon or Peppermint, or a blend like Citrus Fresh or Gathering for the perfect cleansing solution.
#9- Carpets
Add one cup of baking soda and 20-25 drops of Melaleuca Quinquenervia, Lemon, Purification or any other favorite essential oil to a glass jar. Close it, shake it and let it sit overnight. Then sprinkle it on your carpet 15 minutes before you vacuum.
#10- Bathroom/Shower
Spruce up your bathroom by mixing 5 drops of Lemon essential oil and 5 drops of Idaho Balsam Fir Essential Oil with 2 ounces of water the next time you clean your shower.
#11- Diffuse in Large Rooms
After you get those touch surfaces clean, consider using a diffuser to cleanse the air of residual odors. Atomizing or ultrasonic diffuser are best for larger rooms and there are a huge variety of essential oils that can be diffused in them. Just a few Young Living favorites for pleasing, refreshing, energizing and uplifting scents include Joy, Lavender, Goldenrod, Ylang Ylang, Peace & Calming II, Purification, and Frankincense.
#12- Closets
After you sort through and get rid of those items you haven’t used in the last year, spritz your closets with a blend of Peppermint and Lavender.
#13- Upholstery
That same spray will freshen your upholstery, so don’t forget to give it a good spritz after you’ve vacuumed out the nooks and crannies.
#14- Refrigerator/Freezer
Take a few days off grocery shopping and use some of those items in your refrigerator or freezer to empty it out. Then mix 2 cups of water, 3 tablespoons of liquid soap and 20-30 drops of Tea Tree Essential Oil for the perfect cleaning product.
#15- Cutting Boards
While you’re in the kitchen, give those cutting boards a good freshen up. A raw lemon is perfect for this. Just cut one in half, run it over the surfaces, let it sit for 10 minutes and rinse away.
#16- Garbage Cans
Take a few minutes to clean your garbage cans by filling them with water and 2-3 capfuls of Thieves Household Cleaner. Let this mixture set for 1-2 hours before rinsing.
#17- Plastic Containers
Dishes are easy to clean, but plastic containers can retain stains and residual oils. Mix 1 capful of Thieves Household Cleaner with 1 cup of white vinegar. Let soak for 5 minutes and then hand wash with soap and water.
#18- Wood Floors
Wood floors can pose special challenges. Try using 1 cup of olive oil with 1 capful of Thieves Household Cleaner. You can also add 10 drops of Pine Essential Oil to cut grease and enhance the aroma.
#19- Wood Trim
Fill a large sprayer bottle with water and 4-5 capfuls of Thieves Household Cleaner.
#20- Oven
There’s no tougher or more dreaded spot to clean in the average home than the oven. Make it easy by using Thieves Household Cleaner at full strength straight from the bottle, then let it sit for 5 minutes and wipe it clean.
Happy Cleaning!! Here’s to a fresh home!
